Whether it's a weekend project or our extended afterschool program, all of our classes are designed to engage kids in the creative process.

This special 7-week program is designed for kids who have "graduated" from regular Afterschool Shop Class (or have equivalent experience) and are eager for new challenges and more advanced projects. The emphasis is still on fun, but we will introduce new tools and techniques and kids will delve deeper into project planning and design.

Furniture Design Workshop - for kids and adults!
Sunday 6/17, noon - 3pm
This three-hour workshop will introduce young makers and designers to the fundamentals of furniture design, and has them creating wood masterpieces! We will look at many fun and interesting examples of classic and contemporary furniture pieces, noticing the variety of shapes, proportions, colours, textures and forms utilized by professional woodworkers and designers. Then you will design and make your own model furniture pieces by combining pre-cut wooden parts (provided), which allow endless possibilities for unique designs. The individual parts can be cut smaller, shaped, and sanded smooth, and then joined together with crazy glue. Working in the same way as professional designers, you will not only learn how furniture is put together, but will learn important design and aesthetic considerations. After creating a miniature showroom of original model furniture pieces, participants will take their work home with them.
Kids can take this class on their own (drop-off) or sign up for a spot yourself and join in the fun while designing your own piece!
